What Is Body Sculpting?Body sculpting targets and kills fat cells in the body without surgery. It allows you to shape and lose stubborn fat in areas such as the upper arms, abdomen, hips, and thighs. Not only does body sculpting help destroy fat, but it also reduces cellulite, promotes healthy blood circulation, and strengthens connective tissue. This procedure is ideal for those who are close to their ideal weight but have parts of their body they’d like to shape, tighten, tone, or define a little more.

How Does Body Sculpting Work?Body sculpting procedures use different types of energy to kill fat cells and visibly tighten skin. Once the treatment is complete, the body processes and filters out the destroyed fat cells over the course of the next 3-4 months, which is when most people see the full effect of the procedure.

Are there different types of body sculpting treatments? Now that you know how body sculpting works, let’s review the different types of body sculpting available. There are several different types of body sculpting treatments. The two types we’ll focus on here first are treatments using ultrasound and radiofrequency to target and shape areas. Ultrasound Body Sculpting This procedure uses ultrasound waves to break down fat. Ultrasound frequencies are very gentle on the skin and allow you to precisely target specific areas on your body. Radiofrequency body sculpting Radiofrequency body sculpting procedures use energy to create heat to get rid of fat cells. This type of procedure specifically goes after the water in fat cells, so it’s important to make sure you’re hydrated beforehand and drink plenty of water afterward. Cold treatment body sculpting This treatment uses a device that suctions skin and then uses cold temperatures to kill the fat underneath the skin. The cold temperatures do not damage the skin. Heat treatment body sculpting Heat treatments use laser energy to break down fat cells until the body filters them out. Because the devices are flat, this type of treatment is usually best for the abdomen.

How is body sculpting different from liposuction? So you know that body sculpting kills fat and helps shape and firm targeted areas of your body. But isn’t that what liposuction does? Sort of, but with a few key differences. Liposuction uses a suction technique to remove fat from targeted areas. It is a surgical procedure that requires anesthesia and a longer recovery time (usually 1-2 months) than body sculpting. Associated risks include complications from anesthesia, bleeding, and uneven fat reduction. Body sculpting has minimal side effects and because it is non-invasive, it allows you to get back to your normal routine immediately following treatment.

How long does a body sculpting treatment take?Depending on the type of treatment, your body sculpting appointments may take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or more. You can usually plan on coming in for 4-8 appointments before the treatment is complete, and will usually see full results over the next 3-4 months. Appointments will usually be scheduled 7-14 days apart to ensure optimal results.

How should I prepare for body sculpting treatments? Most of us have had procedures done where we’re not supposed to eat for hours beforehand. Thankfully, you don’t have to worry about that with body contouring! However, there are a few simple things our team recommends you do before coming in for your body contouring appointment: Increase your water intake for 2 days beforehand. Because radiofrequency targets the water in fat cells, keeping hydrated before and after your appointment will help the effectiveness of the procedure Keep your treatment areas out of direct sunlight for a week beforehand. We don’t want any sunburns! Avoid wearing makeup or deodorant on your treatment area. These might irritate the skin during the procedure.

What can I expect after body sculpting?Because body sculpting procedures are non-invasive, you can return to normal activities immediately following treatment. You may experience some redness, swelling, or tenderness around the treatment area for a few days following the procedure. However, pain is usually very minimal.
